GDYNIA

Seaside boulevard

‚Nadmorski’ Boulevard is a 1.5 km long promenade leading along the seashore. It begins where the Gdynia fish sculptures are located – these sculptures are the symbol of the City of Gdynia. On the boulevard there is also a monument "To those who left for eternal watch", commemorating the victims of sea disasters. The promenade that runs between the slope of Kamienna Góra and the sea, in the shape in which we use it today, was built in the late 1950s. Earlier, in the 1920s and 1930s, you could first walk along a sandy path, and then along a concrete band strengthening the cliff.

Dar Pomorza - the museum's sailing ship

The three-masted frigate Dar Pomorza is over 100 years old and has been celebrating the Polish merchant navy since 1929, when the Maritime School bought this unit to train navigational officers. The ship sailed over half a million nautical miles, circumnavigated the world many times, and over 13,000 people passed through its deck. students. Since 1983 it has been a museum ship, part of the National Maritime Museum.
Kamienna Góra (Stone mountain)

WWII ship ORP Błyskawica
ORP Błyskawica is the oldest surviving destroyer - a World War II veteran and the only Allied combat ship that actively participated in the activities throughout the war. He traveled 138,356 nautical miles in military service. She has been a museum ship since 1976, part of the Naval Museum. Below deck, you can see an exhibition devoted to the battles of sailors during World War II (including the Virtuti Militari order, which was awarded to the ship). ORP Błyskawica still carries the white and red war flag. It remains part of the 3rd Navy Flotilla and has a full-time naval crew.

Kosciuszko Square and southern pier

KoÅ›ciuszko Square is the tourist center of Gdynia. Its extension is the Southern Pier, created on an artificial peninsula, reaching the sea, with the Avenue of John Paul II. In this place, there is a monument to Maritime Poland, modernist tenement houses and a fountain. The museum ship ORP "BÅ‚yskawica" and the sailing ship "Dar Pomorza" are moored at the quay. A little further, you can see the only in Poland Passenger Ships Avenue and the statue of Joseph Conrad, and closer to the sea, the statue "Å»agle” (‚Sails’).
Emigration Museum
This is the newest and most interesting museum in Gdynia. It tells about the history of Polish emigrants and the contribution of Poles to the history of the world. The exhibition can not only be viewed, you can feel it, listen to it and experience it with all your senses. The building in which the museum is located is the pre-war Marine Station, a pearl of Gdynia's modernism. It was from here that the Polish ocean liners sailed for several decades: m / s Batory and m / s Stefan Batory.

Sopot
Walk along the longest wooden pier in Europe and take in the fresh sea breeze. Stroll down Monte Cassino Street, filled with charming cafes and shops, and snap a photo at the quirky Crooked House or just unwind on Sopot’s sandy beach and enjoy some local seafood at a seaside restaurant.
Sopot pier and marina
The longest wooden pier in Europe cuts into the sea to the length of over 511 m. Built in the 1820s, it is a showcase of Sopot. It is a place for recreational and health walks (the concentration of iodine in the parts farthest out into the sea is twice as high as on land). At the end of the pier there is a yacht marina, whose task is also to protect the pier against the destructive effects of waves and wind. The marina is a place of prestigious regattas and a sailing training center for children. In winter, an ice rink is open at the Spa Square at the base of the pier.

Monte Cassino street (Monciak)
The promenade, famous all over Poland, is Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street, closed to car traffic, running straight to the pier. On both sides you can admire picturesque tenement houses, visit boutiques, pubs and cafes. In summer, "Monciak" turns into a colorful 600-meter river of tourists. It is one of the most characteristic places in Sopot, the heart of the city, and thus - the main meeting place.

Crooked house (Krzywy domek)
One of the most interesting examples of bold contemporary architecture. This building, referring to the drawings of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg, a Swedish cartoonist who has lived in Sopot for many years, is almost a symbol of the city. It took first place on the popular list of the 50 weirdest buildings in the world, published by the Village of Joy portal. The property was also on the BBC's "fairy-tale places" list. The building was put into use in 2004 and had as many as seven architects. Since its inception, it has been one of the most photographed objects in the resort.
Museum of Sopot
It is located in the historic Villa Claaszena from 1904. The representative rooms on the ground floor with the old furnishings have been recreated according to archival photographs from the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, they are open to the public as a permanent exhibition of historic, historic bourgeois interiors. There are variable exhibition halls on the first floor of the villa. Each year, the museum presents temporary exhibitions devoted to various aspects of the history of Sopot.


Fishing harbour
In the charming Fishing Harbor, apart from stalls with fresh and smoked fish, there is also a small fishing museum. Fishing boats on the beach are one of the most photographed views of Sopot. It is also worth visiting the nearby Rybaków Square, to which in 1914, due to the growing number of patients, a fishing settlement was moved from the vicinity of today's pier.
Fortified settlement from 8th century
The remains of a fortified settlement that existed from the 8th to the 10th century. The stronghold, surrounded by streams, is situated on a wooded hill, at the top of which there is a castle courtyard surrounded by earth embankments. In Grodzisk, you will find an exhibition and educational pavilion, a mini-museum, festivals and educational meetings are organized here, promoting the history and cultural monuments of early-century Pomeranians. There is a permanent exhibition of the oldest archaeological monuments in Sopot in the pavilion. This exhibition is called "The Oldest History of Sopot".


Sierakowski manor house
The 18th-century manor house, once a summer residence of the Sierakowski family, is one of the oldest buildings in Sopot. Currently, it houses the Art Gallery and the seat of the Society of Friends of Sopot. The manor house offers city residents and resort guests many cultural, educational and artistic events. For many years, the Society has been inviting you to exhibitions and vernissages, cyclical concerts of classical music, Thursday Music Evenings, Teatr przy Stole, Wiersze na Pięwiata, literary meetings, poetry and music evenings, festival events and others. Oliwa Park
The originality of this place makes the Oliwa Park an ideal place for walking at any time of the year. Communing with the beauty of this place is pure pleasure. Żuraw (The crane)

Thick hemp rope, a system of blocks and four wooden wheels moved by ... walking workers. The mechanism of a medieval crane lifting 4- ton loads to a height of 11 meters, was also used to erect masts. Located on the Motława River, the most characteristic Gdańsk monument is the largest port crane in medieval Europe, and at the same time a fortified water gate with two huge brick towers, once protecting the city from the port side.

Neptune’s fountain
The obvious ruler of a seaside city: J.W. Neptune. A place worthy of god: a representative square. Fame: legendary. One of Gdańsk's legends says that when the anticipated Neptune Fountain was erected in the place of the city's well in Długi Targ, the admiration of the cheering Gdańsk residents, spontaneously throwing golden ducats into the water, was gracefully tickled by the deity's vanity.
